I’ve been watching the activities of the incumbent Ooni of Ife, and, against all evidences, I just believed he was still in the learning process. My belief is contrary to the fact that I knew he had been to ipebi which is supposed to be an apprenticeship for obas.
However, the propounder of ogun ososi and the belief that Igbos descended from Oduduwa has not failed to satisfy me that he learnt nothing from the ipebi, if he ever consciously attended one.
I also believe he has just a tenuous grasp of history, more so Yoruba history.
The last straw is his magisterial declaration that there is no truth in the reported news that the dam, Opa, that supplies potable water to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
Pray, has the Ooni constituted a fact finding committee on the matter? Has he invited the vice chancellor of the university to hear his informed views?
His saying that the so-called hoodlums would not go to the extent of poisoning the water because they’re aware that Ife indegenes are students and members of staff of the university could be best described as pedestrian.
I would have thought it best for rulers to subject whatever they’ll say in the public domain to various tests before such are released for public consumption!
