I was a great fan of the round leather game, soccer, in my youth.
I actually loved those guys who could dribble their ways into goal. Some of them were Haruna Ilerika, Adokie Amiesimaka, Siji Lagunju, Scoro as Murtala Onigbanjo was known, Segun Odegbami, Rasidi Yekini and so on.
Since I was used to the dribbling of these great footballers on the field of play, nothing surprises me anymore. They actually made the impossible possible.
I’m therefore not surprised that Nigeria’s elections have been postponed. We actually need the postponement.
We need it because voters need to rest. You know it’s the first weekend after Valentine’s day and many people had been active in the ozza room to show their love to their partners.
INEC too, in a manner of speaking, is showing its love to Nigerians. Let’s thank God for little mercies.
All schools that were shut because of the election will have their gates locked to pupils and staff again on the new election day. And if it’s postponed again, the pupils would go on an undeserved holiday. That’s another evidence of love.
In fact, I tend to envy the political footmen. Since the election has been postponed due to no fault of theirs, the godfathers have to make another deal resorting in another payment.
And for the main men, the presidential candidates, it means a postponement of reality.
