A former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez, has been convicted of conspiring with drug traffickers and using his military and national police force to export cocaine to the United States.
Associated Press reports that he was a federal court in the US convicted Hernandez. The charges carry a minimum of 40 years in prison and a maximum of life.
The former president is 55. He served two terms in office as president of his country.
When the news of his conviction reached his opponents outside the courthouse, they were happy with the judgement.
However, the former president seemed to have taken the judgement in a relaxed manner. But the defense attorney, Sabrina Shroff has said Hernandez will appeal the conviction.
