The Ministry of External Affairs in India has disclosed the names of 3,042 fraudulent agents deceiving people with promises of jobs abroad.
News !8 reports that the information is now available on the “e-Migrate” portal. Although Punjab and Gujarat are noted for their youth aspiring to work abroad, Andhra Pradesh leads with 498 names of fake agents identified. Uttar Pradesh is second, with 418 fraudulent agents listed.
The figures reflect complaints lodged by affected migrants to their relatives. The complaints prompted investigations by state police, Indian Missions, and foreign Situation Centers.
To prevent future scams, the Ministry of External Affairs regularly updates the list of fake agents on the e-Migrate portal, with 3,042 names listed as of June 2024.
