Eyan Tan! – Adewale Sobowale

Yoruba have a saying, Eyan tan!

It’s normally said when someone whom a person holds dearly has disappointed the person who trusted him.

There’s an unconfirmed news that the Imo State House of Assembly has endorsed Gomina Okorocha’s son in law as the next governor of the state.

It’s apparent that the house doesn’t want the state to miss the good work the governor is doing. As a result, they have technically sidelined any other person that might want to contest the coveted post.

This is in spite of the fact that the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states that a person will be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a state if:

A) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth
B) he has attained the age of thirty five years
C) he is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party, and
D) he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or it’s equivalent.

The assembly members are so selfless that they didn’t even think that anyone of them was good enough for the post. They have showed vividly that they are not good enough to be in such an exalted post.

The curious thing, however, is that if they had sold their own souls to the devil, how are they sure other people are so unwise.

Little wonder the governor was getting away with his wise deeds. They have proved that they are mere rubber stamps.

Eyan tan!
