Eyan Tan! – Adewale Sobowale

Yoruba have a saying, Eyan tan!

It’s typically said when someone a person holds dearly has disappointed the person who trusted him.

Unconfirmed news has emerged that the Imo State House of Assembly has endorsed Gomina Okorocha’s son-in-law as the next governor of the state.

It’s apparent that the House doesn’t want the state to miss the governor’s good work. As a result, they have technically sidelined any other person who might want to contest the coveted post.

This is even though the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states that a person will be qualified for election to the office of Governor of a state if:

A) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth
B) he has attained the age of thirty-five years
C) he is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party and
D) he has been educated to at least the School Certificate level or equivalent.

The assembly members are so selfless that they don’t even think that any one of them is good enough for the post. They have shown vividly that they are not good enough to be in such an exalted post.

The curious thing, however, is that if they had sold their souls to the devil, how are they sure other people are so unwise.

Little wonder the governor was getting away with his wise deeds. They have proved that they are mere rubber stamps.
