Power is a very interesting thing. It’s when people have some power, no matter how infinitesimal, that you’ll know the real person hiding behind the mask.
You’ll get to know whether they are humanistic or beasts in human clothing. Fela Kuti captures it well in one of his songs titled, Beast of No Nation. In the album we learn that, ‘Animal dey wear agbada, animal dey wear suit’.
Of course, man refers to himself as a higher animal. However, there are some people whose behaviour tend to make you ponder whether the brutish behaviour of animals has actually left them.
The action carried out by agents of the Oyo state government in demolishing Yinka Ayefele’s ‘Fresh FM’ radio station in ibadan, could only have been ordered by an ‘ota aje’, ‘arungun’ and a ‘craze man’.
Even if a case was not in court on the matter, I never thought an executive governor could descend so low to order the destruction of the property of an individual in a state he has sworn to protect its citizens.
The building has been there for nearly a decade. Who approved the building plans? If there had been some changes from the original building plans, could the issue not have been resolved in a more reasonable manner? In any case, what happened to synergy between the various divisions of government?
But then, for those who did not know, it’s a sign of what the APC would unleash on the people when it comes back to power at the federal level.
The question reasonable people will ask is when will this nonsense stop?
We all know about the destruction of Fela’s house by the regime of Olusegun Obasanjo. An action which led to the death of Fela’s mother from the injuries she sustained as a result of being thrown from the storey building.
During Osoba’s term as governor in Ogun state, a man erected a building at the popular Kuto market. On a Sunday morning, agents of the government went to destroy the building. However, the man joined the PDP, after taking the government to court. He was paid adequate compensation.
Now this by the man who styles himself as, ‘Constituted Authority’. His action was that of authority gone mad. Indeed, it was not only executive recklessness, it was executive lunacy!
If the Oyo state house of assembly had been independent, they would have served him an impeachment notice. Yes!
I’m interested in seeing how the judiciary would react to this arrant disobedience of court orders. It’s then we will know whether the judiciary remains the hope of the common man!
