A long time ago, there was a city which was not enjoying the best of times. That was in spite of the fact that the city possessed all those things which should have made the lives of the people worthwhile.

Instead, the rich were getting richer, the poor were getting even more wretched. That gave way for religious impostors who masqueraded as tin gods. They were able to get away with their devilish game because the people were so gullible.

Instead of demanding for good governance, the people were satisfied with the crumbs passed down to them by the few super rich.

It became so worse that people then felt they should seek succor from the animal kingdom. When they looked at all animals, they decided to select the elephant as their ruler.

So, they went to invite the elephant, they went with drums and were singing,

Erin karele o wa joba,
Erin yeye, Erin yeye!

The elephant itself needed just a little persuasion. He was overjoyed with the fact that, human beings, who normally called themselves higher animals were experiencing difficulties in ruling themselves.

He gladly accepted to rule sons of men!

But then, his reign was extra worse. Kidnappings, armed robberies and so on were the order of the day.

His rule was just like putting a bull in a China shop. The situation worsened.

The people then planned a strategy. It was a secret. They encouraged the elephant to give some rich people titles in the village square. Titles were normally given to people in the king’s palace.

However, due to the people’s plans, the elephant was convinced to give the titles in the square.

Unknown to the elephant, the planners had dug a man hole and used some coverings for the hole. They then arranged to put the oba’s stool on the covering.

Before putting the stool, they arranged for some armed men to be in the hole. They then waited patiently for the elephant.

The elephant, lacking the knowledge of men’s plan, sat on the throne.

Of course, the throne collapsed and the men in the pit made a mincemeat of the elephant.

But then, after the murder of the elephant, the people are still languishing in their self inflicted sorrow!!!
