Could She Have? – Adewale Sobowale

My paternal aunt had always been there, not only for me, but for everyone she came across. She was friendly to a fault. She was also a very good mixer.

Although I wasn’t there when she was growing up, I could still see the effects of a Lagos lady that she truly was on her.

When a married man maintains an open house, it means the wife doesn’t mind receiving visitors. So it was with Iya’beji!

She was so nice to everyone she came across. What a great loss?

She was very much a part of me right from my birth. She stood by me through the vicissitudes of my life.

Although a woman, she stood for the father I never had. And what a lovely father figure she was?

How I wish I could have stayed with her and learnt more from her in her latter years!
Well, that remains an illusory wish!!

I really can’t imagine seeing her in a cold morgue, lonely coffin or even the lonelier grave. But then, I console myself that there’s a time for everything.

Here’s wishing her a smooth ride into paradise!
