Soldiers who fired warning shots at a group of migrants who tried to force their way into Poland through the Belarusian border have been detained but not arrested, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
TVN24 reports that he said the incident had occurred at the end of March and that he had been informed about it at that time. He added that the matter is under investigation.
Meanwhile, two of the three soldiers have been charged so far. “The prosecutor’s office charged them with overstepping their authority and endangering the lives of others,” according to the Onet news website.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Thursday he had received a report on the situation from the defence minister. He said, “Actions by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Military Police against our soldiers raise legitimate concerns and people outrage.
“I expect swift resolutions and organizational, legal, and personal decisions.”
