As we’re approaching 2023, the presidential election in Nigeria is revealing a lot about people.
For instance, a friend I’ve known for over 50 years – because he’s so attached to a presidential candidate – out of the blues, suddenly knew I lack values from “home”.
Haa..
It’s so painful because I respect this guy a lot. Note that I’m using the present tense. His words won’t make me lose the respect I have for him. Not because he feeds me but because by disrespecting him, I’ll be disrespecting myself.
But I just want us to know certain things. The first being that no politician is worth dying for. We may die for our principles, of course.
Second is that we should remember that even siblings could belong to opposing parties and that doesn’t remove the fact that they are brothers. Check out the Dosunmu and Durosinmi–Etti brothers who belonged to different parties in the second republic.
There was even the case of Ikokwu who defeated his old man in the first republic.
I would advise that for friendship to be maintained, you could just read your friend’s post and pass no comment.
But for another friend I hold dearly, even if he unfriends me or block me, I will always remember to ask him to join the Obidient train. Seriously, I respect this werecious element for remaining friends with me despite our supporting different candidates.
