Cabbagetown Festival holds with pomp and pageantry!

The annual Cabbagetown Festival is taking in Downtown Toronto.

It’s pure entertainment plus business. There’s a lot to eat and drink, not just ordinary food but the local cuisines of various cultures.

There are textile materials on sale from across the globe, too.

Books, toys, and games are all in abundance.

It’s on Saturday and Sunday, 7th and 8th September 2024!

A brief history of Cabbagetown!

In the 1840s, the neighbourhood became home to the many Irish immigrants fleeing famine in Ireland. The area got its name from the cabbages and other vegetables the poor residents grew in their front yards.

Cabbagetown has changed a lot since then. However, it has embraced the term that was once used derisively as a reminder of its immigrant roots.

The Cabbagetown BIA was formed in 1982 primarily to produce the Cabbagetown Festival. Its mandate has since expanded considerably in the past 35+ years as it has produced a variety of events and invested in the development of the streetscapes and public realm.
