I just thought we should compare the military government of Mr Buhari to his executive presidency.
It’s true the Shagari administration which Buhari toppled really made a mess of the economy. But was the Buhari administration well positioned to bail out the Nigerian people?
Well, the military used its usual force of repression to cow the people. They then proceeded to roll out a series of anti-people decrees.
People couldn’t talk for fear of persecution. The press was chained by decree 2. Three Nigerians were sentenced to death for drug peddling when the law dictated that they should be imprisoned.
Fela Kuti, the revolutionary musician was wrongly jailed for currency trafficking. Meanwhile, when the military administration organized a change in the nation’s currency, about 35 suitcases suspected to contain currency went in through the Ikeja Airport ably supervised by Buhari’s aide-de-camp.
What about making it a law that only eighteen year olds and above could go on pilgrimage to Hajj? When the coup that eased Buhari out of power took place, his deputy, Idi Agbon, was performing the Hajj with his fourteen-year-old son, Adekunle
However, in spite of the lack of discipline exhibited by a so-called corrective regime, their sins could still be pardoned because once the military gets into power, they suspend the constitution. Martial law is the order of the day.
It’s quite a different ball game when it comes to a democratic government.
Personally, I don’t think it’s right for military officers who had supplanted a democratic government to rule a country under a democratic setting.
Second, Mr Buhari is just sitting there and there’s so much insecurity and hunger in the land. I will refrain from mentioning the various acts of malgovernance being performed by this administration since all of us are witnesses.
Meanwhile, political actors don’t fail to receive their emoluments at the end of each month.
In conclusion, I believe even the military administration of Buhari is far better than this focusless government.
By the way, the administration still has almost three years to spend wobbling and fumbling!
