I’ve been going to some coffee bars just to feel the pulse of the city and to ease myself of loneliness. Of course, other benefits are added like using the Wi-Fi while doing my writing that has become habitual.
I could spend two hours on two extra large cups of coffee, or even more. I generally take my coffee without cream or sugar. Some of them have known me for that.
But what I have noticed is the fact that while the owners of the bar are generally friendly – one even gave me a coupon that will grant me a free coffee with every five cups I do buy.
But to my utter disappointment, it’s the black men who are employed as mai guards that will be eyeing me as if I were a crook. Apparently, they would be immensely happy if they could catch me committing a crime.
It’s quite possible that their promotion depends on how many criminals they do arrest!
But on discussing the issue with friends both in the U.S. and here, they were surprised I was just realising the trend.
Na wao!
The blacks are so snobbish. And if they are successful in one venture or the other, they become little gods.
In contrast, the average white man in this city is respectful. I’m sure you know when I use man, it includes women too.
They have this aura about them which breathes happiness. Happiness is infectious anyway.
For drivers to wait at traffic lights is considered a duty. Even if there is no oncoming vehicle, they stay put.
For the blacks, we need to have a rethink!
