Some asylum seekers have admitted paying for documentation in South Africa.
Eye Witness News reports that the admission was made known when Special Investigating Unit officials raided some refugee centre around the country on Friday.
Investigators raided the centres as part of their probe into the allegations of corruption at Home Affairs.
Over a hundred officials have been flagged for shady dealings in the awarding of refugee status.
Refugee status should be free in the country but as things stand, some frustrated asylum seekers told reporters that applicants pay anything between 3,500 and 17,000 rands in bribes just to get the coveted paper.
