In the past, at least in Yorubaland, when a child was born, one of the first things his parents did was to call a babalawo, diviner, to check out what the child’s future would be like.
By so doing, the parents would have known what the child was most likely to become, his relevance to his society, etc.
So, since the parents already knew his story, he was not likely to give them much problems.
Mr Okorocha is a man after my heart. Within the rather short lifespan of a man, he has achieved so much. He started off as a businessman and he did his business with some human face.
When he went into politics, I bet Imo state folks would have believed they had never had it so good. However, they are in the best place to assess him now.
Recently, a lot of furore has been raised because of his new avocation. The erection of statutes.
He first started with the president of South Africa. He followed up with the president of Liberia.
He must have his own reasons for choosing those people. But the fact remains that they came to the state. I don’t know whether their coming translated into more revenue for local businesses.
But, let’s look at the issue from other angles.
One, there’s no doubting the fact that the governor’s chi, as personal God is called amongst the Igbo, dictated that he should be a statute creator. And he is obeying.
Two, think about the fame it will bring to Imo and even Nigeria, when his feat attracts the attention of the publishers of Guinness Book of Records.
Three, do you know Madame Thasauds’ in London? That’s the way the idea started. It has even gone beyond London now. And it is patronised by bigmen everywhere.
Four, the salaries of civil servants will be the first to be paid from these internally revenue generating venture. Especially, since the governor is not relenting in his efforts at erecting more statutes.
Of course, those people working on the statutes too will make their money.
Gomina, please continue with your good work. Don’t mind the fourth of the ten commandments!
Don’t listen to all those schmucks who are insisting that the governor is looking for a safe haven after power. Who will be chasing him? Is it not the people who embezzled money that the authorities will be looking for?
