Mmm…
So, Mr Kyari, Buhari’s chief of staff, has tested positive to coronavirus. But that’s not as newsworthy as the fact that he’s been taken to Lagos for treatment.
The Aso Clinic on which so much has been spent doesn’t have the required materials. I doubt if the clinic even has bandages for first aid.
Interestingly, the clinic is said to have had 9.17 billion Naira spent on it in a period of four years. It had 3.94 billion, 3.87 billion 331.70 million and 1.03 billion allocated to it for the years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively. A whopping sum of 931.35 million is budgeted to be spent on the clinic this year.
When you look at the public hospitals in Nigeria today, I can say from experience that the local dispensaries are the most reliable in terms of treatment and even personnel.
I don’t think the hospital Kyari has been taken to is owned by the federal government. By the way, each state has a Federal Medical Center. Those ones too are not better than ‘dispensing centers’, to quote Buhari’s speech when he came in as a ‘no nonsense’ military ruler on December 31st, 1983.
Let’s thank God for little mercies, if it had not been for coronavirus, I bet Kyari would have jetted abroad for medical tourism.
How many poor people will have the opportunity of being flown to Lagos like almighty Kyari?
How well-equipped are our hospitals?
Well, it’s left for the people to know the antecedents of the people they will vote for in the nearest future!
Afefe ti fe, a ti ri furo adie!!
