Sons of men will always claim they are higher animals. But it’s not as if they are right.
As that man with bushy grey hair said, ‘A tiger does not need to announce its tigritude. It roars’.
In the course of our looking for food, which is rather scarce at this time, I was able to eavesdrop on the conversation of some reverends. You know, in a bishop’s court reverends are two for a kobo!
The major point of discussion was that young people must rule in Nigeria. Even we, animals, are aware of the fact that it is not a bad thing for young people to rule.
However, what we are against is the way some of the so-called youths are going about it. We do not see any reason, for instance, why the aged should be disabled because the youth must rule. Everyone must be offered an equal opportunity.
But then, it’s like the youth are getting ready for the seat of power in earnest. They seem to have understood a basic concept.
The concept is that if you want to rule a country as diverse as Nigeria, you need to be high on one thing or the other.
That’s probably why we have a very high preponderance of hard drugs in Nigeria in recent times.
The drugs vary in types and, of course, in prices. For as little as nothing some of the poor youth could get high. They could sniff the soak away pits. They could even sniff lizards’ defecation.
Those who have a little cash could buy and sniff glue. Others could procure cough syrups for sniffing.
Those that have the money could move on to opioids, heroin, shisha, codeine, tramadol, etc.
You can see that our youth are really getting ready to rule this country. To make matters easy, drugs are now sold openly in most of our urban centers. At least if people can not find jobs, they will be busy taking drugs. Don’t forget the fact that many medicine stores are free, without any encumbrance, to sell these drugs. It’s even good because after taking the drugs, most of them will go and sleep. At least, a sleeping person doesn’t foment trouble.
Do note that I left out marijuana. That was deliberate. In the First World, most countries are already seeing the medicinal effects of marijuana. They are therefore gradually legalising its usage.
The Nigerian case is however neither here nor there. This is because we hardly have any clear-cut policy on hard drugs. Then we have a duplication of regulatory agencies to contend with.
What it amounts so is the reality of the fact that the abusers of drugs manage to wriggle out of the arms of the law.
The youth are generally preparing themselves for the next elections with their dazed eyes!
