A Call for Global Peace! – Adewale Sobowale

That the world is not at peace is just too obvious.

It’s like humanity is fighting against itself.

Of course, weapons must be used in fighting wars. But it comes with grave consequences.

The concentration of the world seems to be on the procurement of ammunition. With the ammunition, territories are annihilated, people are displaced, there’s lack of food, people are killed, many are wounded and others flee.

According to reports, global defense spending was $2.2 trillion in 2023. According to the FAO, an annual investment of around $267 billion is needed to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.

We need to come into terms with those who are displaced because of conflicts and the lands that get mined and because of that they have to be demined to make any agricultural practice effective.

We are complaining of housing shortages all over the world. Yet, homes are destroyed during wars and conflicts.

I would think we are creating deviants of children who get traumatized by global instability. Some of them get wounded physically and a lot more are hurt emotionally.

Aren’t we showing our children that we can’t protect them?

So, what do we expect of them with their state of accumulated grievances?

Of course, we’ve done them a life-long wrong. But we may not be alive to witness when their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder develops into exhaustion, confusion, agitation, sadness, anxiety, numbness, dissociation, physical arousal and blunted effect.

I, certainly, don’t envy them!

I would think the earlier we started emphasizing those things that unite us rather than those that divide us would be the beginning of our being liberated from global conflicts.

We just need to respect people as humans wherever they might have sprouted from!
