4 Israeli hostages were rescued by Israeli special forces Saturday afternoon in a rare operation which took weeks of planning.
The special forces were backed by the military, intelligence and air force. They raided two ɓuildings several hundred meters apart in a neighbourhood in Nuseirat in Northern Gaza.
They were able to rescue Noa Argamani, Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv. The rescued hostages were found alive and in good medical condition.
The Israeli forces lost a police officer.
However, the Palestinians were not so lucky as hundreds of them, including women and children, were killed and injured during the operation.
The Israeli military claimed it had targeted militants who had threatened its forces when they tried to rescue the hostages.
The hostages were taken by car to a two awaiting helicopters.
By 1:30 p.m., the Israeli government announced that the four were home.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden of the United States and Emmanuel Macron of France have congratulated Israel for the success of the stunt.
