300 irregular migrants have arrived by sea from Egypt on the island of Gavdos, south of Crete. This brings the number of new arrivals in the country to 1,500.
Middle East Monitor reports that this is causing concern and putting pressure on Athens.
Most of the new arrivals are reportedly from Egypt, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Migration Minister Dimitris Kairidis said the new arrivals are from new migration routes, starting in Egypt and stopping on the way to the Libyan Coast.
Stavros Arnaoutakis, the governor of Crete, said, “We are waiting for the minister, and we will consult so that we have the best possible result.”
He predicted a growth in the number of irregular migrants with improving weather.
The authorities in Greece have announced that the number of migrants who come through the Aegeaan Sea and the northern Evros region significantly fell in recent months due to an increase in cooperation with Turkiye.
