The UK’s health services may soon start suffering a depletion of staff.
ABC News reports the case of a medical doctor who has practiced in the UK for about 10 years who decided to pack bag and baggage to flee with his family to Australia.
The doctor was simply fed up with working in the UK. One of the reasons he gave was the lack of beds in British hospitals. It was so bad that elderly patients were treated in hospital corridors, according to him.
However, since moving to Australia, he has seen his salary nearly triple and has found the work hours more sustainable.
In addition, he says he has a much better lifestyle for his family, the weather is great and there are always outside activities to do with his kids.
According to him, while in the UK, he felt he was always under pressure to discharge the patient.
He is just one of the many doctors leaving the UK’s healthcare system as the NHS an exodus of staff moving abroad.
Dr Vivek Trivedi of the British Medical Association said doctors are leaving because the health system is underfunded in both services and wages.
Meanwhile, the UK’s general election will be held in July. Both the Conservative and Labour parties ate expected to make pledges about the country’s health system.
