The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said on Monday that over 543,000 travellers crossed the Singapore-Malaysian land border on September 6.
CNA reports that the single-day record was logged during the September school holidays from August 30 to September 8. During the period, over five million travelers crossed the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints, according to ICA.
“Car travellers departing during peak periods had to wait up to three hours for immigration clearance due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.”
The previous record of 510,000 travellers crossing the land checkpoint was set on March 28.
Heavy traffic is also expected at the land checkpoints from November 5 to January 1, 2025, the year-end school holidays.
ICA reminded travelers to ensure their passports have a validity of at least six months. Singapore permanent residents who have renewed their passports should ensure their re-entry permits have been transferred to their new passports. At the same time, long-term pass holders should notify ICA or the Ministry of Manpower of any change in their passport particulars before re-entering Singapore.
People traveling by car are encouraged to use QR codes instead of passports for faster immigration clearance. drivers of foreign vehicles should also ensure that their vehicle entry permits are valid.
