Lezan Tahir, a Kurdish refugee, has become a vice-president for customer service at Gate City Bank in downtown Fargo in the United States.

INFORUM reports that Tahir’s family survived Saddam Hussein’s brutal mustard gas attack against Kurdish people in 1988.

He was born in a refugee camp before he and his family made it to the United States and finally Fargo-Moorhead.

In the bank, he was a customer service supplier. His co-workers described him as the heartbeat of the bank. They described him as always positive and a glass half-full kind of guy”,

On the mustard gas attack launched by Saddam Hussein in which 5,000 people died, Tahir said, “What he was really trying to do was to just get rid of the Kurdish people. I mean, no different than what Hitler was trying to do back in the day. You were either forced to flee or stay and maybe not see tomorrow.”

He praised his parents for making his present situation possible. He said, “The stuff that they went through. Even when you hear it, it sounds like it’s out of a movie.”

He plays Kurdish music for weddings and cultural celebrations with a keyboard.
