Everybody knows I am no pastor. God has not called me to be a worker. I am informed that there are three groups of pastors. The first group consists of those who have been called by their stomachs. The second are those who have been called by Bishops.
The third are those who have been called by God Himself! By the way, this group has very few members.
I’m always fascinated by the events recorded in 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12. It is the story of King David’s great crime against an ordinary soldier, Uriah.
Poor Uriah was at the battlefront while his wife was at home. She went to have her bath on a certain day. It happened that the great king, David happened to be walking on his roof. From there, he saw the woman.
The woman was a beauty. He sent for her, and one thing led to the other. The woman became pregnant. David must have been a very productive man.
David sent for Uriah. He schemed for him to sleep with his wife. But David failed. He then sent Uriah with a letter to the war front. The koko of the letter was for the bearer to be drafted to a spot where the battle was fiercest. The commander was directed to withdraw all support from the poor soul.
So, Uriah died!
You can see that the king had committed a series of crimes. Even I, know that God hates sins.
The crux of the matter was that God directed a prophet, Nathan, to David. He told the king his sins point blank. He never minced words. He even told him the penalties as ascribed by God.
How many of our so-called men of God can do that? I believe our men in cassocks are part of our problems. If they would rather wine and dine with the people in power instead of telling them the truth, how will they know they are committing sins against God and men?
Like I said I’m not a pastor.
Here’s wishing everybody a merry Christmas!!!!
