There is no doubting the fact that the die is cast for Nigeria to go to the polls tomorrow. As would be expected, all hands are on deck to see to the prosecution of the election.
Personally, I would not have voted. That’s because the two top candidates are just unacceptable to me.
But then, I would still have been bounded by the decision of the majority, provided the election is seen to be fair.
Why is it so difficult for us to have acceptable candidates? Why is it so hazardous for people who understand modern political economy to get to Aso Rock?
For one, I don’t believe the work of a president is so difficult in a place where people know what they are doing? In other words, I don’t believe that we, Nigerians, know what we’re doing.
If we know what we’re doing, we’ll not be selling what remains of our conscience by collecting money from people who should be our employees. It actually results in selling our future, at least for the next four years.
And what do these political office holders do once they maneuver their ways into power? They recoup the investments they had used in empowering us.
The little difference is that they take much more than they had expended. They are businessmen and who invests to make losses?
But then, is the common man any better for the actions of these schlock shylocks?
When are we going to learn? There’s no problem in a person making a mistake. However, if a person keeps repeating the mistakes, he’s no doubt a fool.
I know we’re no fools. It’s the situation in which we have found ourselves that has emasculated most of us. However, I believe most of us would have seen the futility of our decisions to sell our birthright.
While we’re going into another four years of suffering, let us be advised to learn some endurance, even in our dignified poverty.
Gbogbo ohun to ndan ko ni wura!
