I understand the 2019 elections have proceeded in Nigeria with the lifting of the ban on election campaigns.
That’s great, ain’t it?
It could be likened to a festival. That’s because many party stalwarts will be having the treat of their lives.
Politicians themselves will be doing all in their powers to satisfy the masses. Or those who are influential amongst them.
The labour unions will ‘chop’ life as if the world is coming to an end. These particularly goes to the,
Up road! Up national category!!
In their own case, they would have an ear to the ground just in case some opponent needs some roughening up before they cooperate.
And if it leads to death, who cares?
It’s even good as the festive season is here. I mean the Christmas and New Year. The politicians and their godfathers will not be tired of organizing parties. They will never be tired of distributing ’empowerment’ instruments.
At the community level, they may even put one or two lorry loads of laterite on long forsaken roads. They will then promise the poor people that as soon as they are voted In, construction will start.
The Lagos Ibadan expressway is of particular reference. Under this political dispensation that started in 1999, that road has proved stubborn. However, the contract monies have tried to comply with the wishes of the various contractors.
Please, let nobody wake us up from this dreamland. Yeah, who cares about manifestos and ideologies. Who cares about the candidates’ precedent.
As long as they have money, they can buy the next four years of our lives. After all, what is four years in the life of a nation?
Abeegi, second base jare!
