My job today is an unenviable one. Yes, it is!

I will be a self appointed commentator for the ongoing process of exiDino. If you don’t know what that means, I.mean exiDino, then you.must be a new man to Nigerian politics.

If you are new, you may not have heard that the good people of Kogi State want to civilise the.rest of Nigeria as far as democracy is concerned.

You see, in Nigeria, we have forgotten that democracy is about the people. That is why it is defined as a government of the people by the people and for the people.

The people are the electors otherwise known as the constituents. In other words, they are the employers of successful candidates. Most of the people, the politicians inclusive, do not know this.

Once, the politicians have been voted in, we hardly see some of them until the next voting season. They will stay in the capital and be lording it over the people.

However, there is a process through which constituents may recall a legislator if they are not satisfied with his performance.

The Kogi West people are in the process of using that provision for the ajekun iya exponent, that distinguished Senator Dino Melaye. The process involves the people signing a petition to signify their intention. They have done that.

They have sent the petition to the Independent Electoral Commission. That one too has been done.

The INEC will go and supervise the recall proper next week. That involves those who actually signed the recall petition to line up with their voters’ cards. Once they are more than fifty percent, then the deed is done.

But even if the recall process is not successful, Nigerians would have learnt a very useful lesson. That is legislators are not irremovable. Anybody who feels he has been elected to.go and be inactive in the legislative house has another think coming.

Power to the people!!!
