I need to state the obvious. Both men, I mean Messrs Trump and Buhari, are not my favourite politicians.
Both men to me, are products of consensus of the ruling elites of their respective countries.
While the average American White had never forgiven the Democrats for bringing a black man to their White House. Any surprise why Trump’s slogan was Taking America back?
At the other end, the Hausa – Fulani believe they are born to rule. Anybody that doesn’t belong to their stock and happens to be ruling Nigeria is seen by them as an impostor.
However, what I actually want to concern myself with here are the activities of both men, even before swearing in.
As for Trump, threats of a recount has not stopped him from making most of his appointments.
He has gone ahead to issue some policy statements. In fact, we can say the man is good to go.
As for Buhari, despite being head of state in the eighties and in spite of having contested thrice in this dispensation, he wasted precious time on inanities.
One would have expected him to hit the ground running. However, he was busy receiving visitors who came to congratulate him, when he ought to have been using his time positively.
If Trump succeeds as President, he would have earned it. Yes, he is planning meticulously.
Is it any surprise that the Nigerian presidency has warned that there may be famine in the land presently?
I still maintain that for APC and Buhari, the presidency is A destination. It remains a prized gem in their hands.
They are actually clueless as to what to do with it!
I think that’s a clear difference between a country that that uses its first eleven to administer its affairs and one that does not have a team at all!!
