There’s a popular English saying which is, ‘six and half a dozen’. It’s used to describe an insignificant change.
The former ruling party in Nigeria, the People’s Democratic Party is using a former vice president of the federation, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, as its presidential flag bearer in the 2019 elections. The man, Atiku has been eyeing the presidency since the days of the ill fated June 12 which the late philanthropist Basorun MKO Abiola won decisively.
And most fairly, too!
The ruling party, on its own is fielding the lack lustre incumbent, Mr Muhammed Buhari as its candidate.
Unlike the Oyinbo, who choose to call the situation, ‘six and half a dozen’, I have decided to name it, ‘six minus half a dozen’!
This is because, personally, I don’t see any elemental change in an Atikuish presidency. He has been in the corridors of power for so many years.
I beg to say I don’t see him birthing the change which Nigeria needs!
And urgently too!!
If he wins, we might just end up having a Jonathan-Buhari kind of change. Only the few vultures will be having a feast in the centre at the expense of the poor masses.
To continue with the insensitive activities of the present government is no tea party either.
At least, for the suffering masses!
We could certainly have benefited from a third force. That is, a third political organisation that could wrestle power from the APC and PDP.
However, it seems the younger elements who should have been the bulwark of that movement are much more satisfied being social media presidents. They are more or less like the watchtower of Babel. They are not speaking the same language. They therefore have to go to their different tents.
At least, they will be consoled with an also-ran title!
But then, they have failed Nigeria and more importantly, the citizen Mudas who are increasing by the second.
But then, the words of Joseph de Maistre will always be true.
‘A people will always deserve its leadership’.
