An incident that happened when 2015 was running out made me wonder if the police in Edo State had much to do.
A pastor was reported to be found burying a live animal in his church premises and performing some rituals. Some busybodies felt offended, they even wanted to manhandle him.
The police then arrested him.
How I wish I were a lawyer! I would have loved to defend the handsome pastor. One, how is it the business of anyone if someone decides to do whatever in the privacy of his church? He is the General Overseer, isn’t he?
Ok, they could say a church is a public place.
Again, the pastor could be offering the gods their share of the bounties the members shared with him. I did not say tithe o!
By the way, we are known to be the most religious people in the world. That is not the same thing as saying we possess a lot of faith anyway.
Incidentally, Benin City where the incident happened was just like Ile Ife when I visited in the eighties. Both ancient cities did not joke with paying obeisance to the deities.
I bet those who raised eyebrows were only envious.
