The Yoruba have a saying that, o d’emu l’ogbe, o t’oguro l’ofa, o gbenu s’idi ope, ofe ni nro na?
In the bible, there’s the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25 vs 1-13.
Before assessing the performance of the Super Eagles, I should first congratulate the squad for their efforts at making the nation proud. I found their performance a pleasant surprise.
Surprise because the nation’s sports facilities have been run aground. And, I don’t mean it was done by this administration.
By the way, how many standard stadia does Nigeria have now?
Are there any junior teams?
Are schools serious about sports?
Quite a number of the players just made it out of necessity.
At least, I read the story of one of them whose father died and he had to be selling pure water before making fame in the round leather game.
If the authorities deem it right, this is the time to consider looking into sports. Apart from getting youths occupied, it’s a foreign exchange earner.
A team must win the game. So, all those playing the blame game should please relax.
I congratulate the Super Eagles once again.
