I’ll never be tired of airing my views about the Nigérian situation. As usual, it’s a case of, ‘He who have ears, let him hear’!
Nigeria’s case is very worrisome. But it’s, certainly, not hopeless.
At least, for now!
If the protection of the people is one of the duties of government, then one can sincerely say there’s no government in Nigeria. If another duty is giving people their basic needs, one will not be too far from the truth in concluding there’s no semblance of governance in the country.
If there are some people who go by the appellations of president, governors and local government chairmen and they have been overwhelmed by the situation, they will, no doubt, be looking for ways of saving their faces.
Remember, we’re gradually approaching elections!
Also remember, the president is a general in the army!!
Since, the president is apparently confused because he has bitten more than he can chew, he’ll obviously be desperate to save his face. That could be at the expense of peace in the country.
That brings me to the people insisting on going to war in the South. This is with particular reference to the Southwest.
Apart from the fact that I don’t think it’s the right thing to do now, they might unwittingly be dragging the southwest into a trap. Like I said earlier, the president might be desperate to save his face.
What other way will be easier for him to do so than a section of the country declaring their independence and his pretending to unite the country?
An evil wind is blowing. And it, definitely, won’t blow the southwest and Nigeria any good. Let’s remember the words of Winston Churchill that, ‘Meeting jaw to jaw is better than war’.
I sincerely sympathize with all those who are losing their loved ones and property to the marauders. I also sympathize with those who are being kidnapped.
But then, we hardly have any choice than negotiating our nationhood. I’m still of a strong belief that if we can practice federalism to the letter, there won’t be any need to go to war!
