The Ogun state commissioner of education is reported to have rolled out the riot act to private schools that admit expelled pupils from public schools.
Professor Abayomi Arigbabuwo is reported to have said this. He then reeled out the offences committed. by pupils. He even mentioned some of the causes.
In the first instance, may I ask the honorable professor master if the idea is reciprocal. That is, will it be the same if a pupil gets expelled from a private school?
Even if the affected pupils don’t attend school in Ogun, isn’t it possible for them to attend in other states?
I would rather think the best option is to arraign offending pupils before juvenile courts and if found guilty they should be remanded in borstal homes. There, they will be educated while having some restrictions to their movement.
By the way, do borstal homes still exist in Nigeria?
I want the Ogun government to know that the right to education is a fundamental human right. Moreover, if children are not educated, they may turn out to be tomorrow’s terrorists.
