Unless it does a rethink, the federal government is likely to stop the production of Nigerian films and music videos outside our shores.
That is a very good development. Whatever scenes artistes may want to use abroad could always be simulated here. If you want a scene of the American red light districts you could always go to Ajegunle.
If you want a scene of New York’s sky scrapers we would always find such on Lagos Island.
So,why travel to Sokoto for what you can find inside your sokoto, trouser.
By so doing, the artistes will save time. They will spend less. Jobs will be provided for local people.
But what about the human rights of the artistes concerned. The proposed regulation will be an abuse of the artistes’ freedom of movement. It is also an abuse of their freedom to make use of their legitimately earned money anywhere.

We can only enjoy human rights when things are normal. The artistes too will understand that things are not normal now.
It is not an abuse but a suspension. I’m sure the artistes themselves are bound to understand.
We did not discuss with them but we know they are patriotic. We are therefore trusting on their love for the fatherland.
But I would have thought it better to look into other areas. For instance, the expenditures by the national assembly. We can look at the expenditures by the judiciary too. Finally, let’s look at the expenditures by the executive.
What I mean is that any foreign expenditure that is not of utmost importance should be cancelled.
That is sabotage. There is no expenditure being made by any arm of government that is not necessary.
Are you talking of the salaries? Their salaries are not meant just for them or their families. They will give their constituencies a major share. In any case, apart from the judiciary whose members are appointed, all of the positions are elective.
And you know, nothing goes for nothing in this country. Did they not spend to be elected? Any time they go back to their constituencies, people will be waiting for them. They want to receive the goodies they have brought from the capital.
After a lot of lekgotlas, it was decided at the highest level that our artistes should also bear a part of the burden of building this nation.
