Informed rumours say the model schools in Ogun state will cost pupils four hundred thousand naira per term. That is a whopping one million, two hundred thousand naira per session.

Hmmm!

Now, I see the reason why the state government did not bother to develop the infrastructure of the older schools. Will those critical of the government see reason too?

Of course, the model schools are not for every Tom, Dick and Harry. Neither are they for the flotsams and jetsams of society. Not at all. They are for model parents who will pay model money.

Of course, the pupils accepted into the schools will be model pupils who will be taught by model teachers. The schools will be headed by model principals.

The pupils will be taught with model syllabi. Their text and exercise books will be exceptional. They will be model.

Their hostels will be model. Their beddings, of course, will be model. They will be served by model chefs in model dining halls.

I don’t think they will go home for vacations. Except if their parents have turned to model parents. Even if they have, what about the roads to their homes. If the roads have not turned into models, their model school buses may simply miss the roads to their various homes.

Of course, when they finish their studies, they will gain admissions into model universities. There, they will be taught by model lecturers.

When they finish their courses, they will work in a model society. In fact, they will become modellers.

Moreover, when the schools start operating, they should be self sustaining. They won’t depend on government allocations.

In fact, all things being equal, they should be a source of internally generated revenue. This of course, will enable government to supply the much needed social amenities.

The older schools? Maybe succeeding governments will attend to them!
