Excuse Me Dance! – Adewale Sobowale

A video clip is currently trending on social media and I wonder why it should have been a surprise anyway. It’s that of our Micheal Jackson turned senator dancing away at the wedding of the richest man’s daughter. I’m surprised because even though most Nigerians are relatively poverty stricken, the legislooters are busy smiling to the banks.

Most Nigerians have forgotten their dancing steps because of penury. However, why should our senators abstain from dancing. Is it everybody that has access to 13.5 million naira per month as running cost? I’m made to believe that’s just a tip of the iceberg.

O re’se were o bu s’ogun, Ibo lo ti feri t’ologbon?
You see craze man head you no cut am, where you go see wise man own?

We simply don’t have a culture of demanding what is right from our so-called leaders. We are not contemptuous of obnoxious things either. We’re damn too complacent. In our docility, we allow idiots to ride roughshod over us.

So, why should they not be happy and dancing at our continuous enslavement.

My own advice for us to have a better clime is that progressive forces should struggle to fill the legislative houses. If they can do that, we can then have laws that are people friendly.

Someone rightfully suggested that all those people angling for the presidency would have been better as legislators.

I believe if we have a legislature of people who know their right hands from their left, we’ll be on the right path.
