This week, a group of young refugees were in Canberra, the Australian capital, asking the MPs to end the bureaucracy surrounding their status.
Independent Australia reports that the delegation of eight Tamil, Iranian and Rohingya refugees addressed MPs of various parties at a series of briefings in Parliament House on Tuesday. They called for a fair and fast pathway to permanency for hundreds of young people and the 9,000 refugees who continue to be overlooked by the Albanese Government.
MPs heard from them how inconsistent and arbitrary temporary visa conditions are causing barriers to their future. Many young people who arrived in the country as children are now unable to access work or study rights.
Many will not be able to fulfil their hopes of attending university, starting a business, or building their lives with the friends and community they have grown up with.
Their visit marked the end of the virtual Big Walk 4 Refugees.
