While I do not necessarily support the disobedience of orders in a democracy, I find it bizarre that governments in Nigeria are busy giving people concerned a bizarre Christmas present.
They have chosen to demolish houses which lack approval from the authorities.
But then, I’m afraid I have to disagree that a house will just appear from the blue moon. Rather, I find it incredible that no single government official was privy to the construction of the houses.
Apart from that, it speaks a lot about our people’s social awareness of community safety. If construction is being done to affect a community, the people ought to have spoken up.
What are the governments doing to provide homes for those who have become homeless by the demolition? Even if they were the owners of the demolished structures, they don’t deserve to sleep rough!
This post does not support the setting up of structures without the approval of the government agencies concerned.
