Austria returns 76 migrants to Bulgaria!

By the end of February, Austria had returned 76 migrants to Bulgaria. This is in adherence to the Dublin Agreement.

The migrants include Syrians and Afghans. Austria is experiencing a decline in asylum applications. The number is steadily declining.

In February, Austria received 2,183 asylum applications, a decrease of 204 compared with January and a 19% drop compared to the same period in 2023. 

This year, the country has granted asylum in 3,277 cases, issued 1,404 subsidiary protection permits, and issued 208 humanitarian residence permits. The percentage of adverse decisions slightly outweighs positive ones in asylum cases. However, the opposite holds for subsidiary protection. Additionally, a large number of residence applications were approved for compelling reasons

Austria has also witnessed 849 cases in which people applied for asylum but subsequently left for their intended final destination.
