President Joe Biden of the United States called for a two-state solution and more Palestinian aid during his State of the Union address on Wednesday.
The address came five months after the Hamas attacked Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023. During the attack, the militants killed 1,200 civilians and soldiers and took at least 200 as hostages.
Israel retaliated by waging war on the Palestinian territory of Gaza. Since then, 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza. Protesters have also accused Israel of committing genocide.
However, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has said the country was only acting in self-defence while denying the allegations of genocide
