Miraculous Feat! – Adewale Sobowale

Given the frequency of happenings in Nigeria, if you’re not a webhead, you’ll definitely not be able to catch up with the latest gist in town. The political scene is especially newsy.

Just yesterday, the Senate did us a lot of favours by concluding the amendment of the constitution. They really tried for the masses.

In fact, the amendments are those things the people have been yearning for.

Could you believe the fact that the ages for contesting elections into the various elective posts have been reduced? As a result, young people with pizzazz will be opportuned to be elected into positions of authority.

They also increased the female representation so that women who have been saying politics is a man’s world will be satisfied.

More importantly, the senate has given immunity to themselves so that nobody will be able to prosecute them in the course of their duties. I guess those planning to recall some senators might have met a brick wall. This is a particularly good one because making of laws is tedious. Our senators should not be faced with unnecessary distractions.

They have also given themselves the powers to override the president’s veto. Wow! If after making a law, an ordinary president then decides to veto it, that’s the end. The president might not have known how many sleepless nights it took before the senate finally made the law.

I think the addition and subtraction of items on the budget should also be there. I mean, the senate are the true representatives of the people. They should be the alpha and omega of anything and everything concerning the people.

I want the senate to continue with this its revolutionary approach to law administration. I will even suggest some more.

They should legislate food to the tables of the plebs. Seeing what they’ve done so far, I believe that should not be an unsolvable problem to them.

Another thing the wananchi will love is the prompt legislation of their salaries. And since it’s part of the campaign promises of the party in power, the legislation of allowances for those who are not working will certainly be most appreciated.

We have more to demand but we just don’t want to rush them.

These are the times we’ve been waiting for.

Did anyone say impunity?
