Didn’t n Won’t! – Adewale Sobowale

I didn’t vote for Mr Muhammad Buhari in 2015.
His actions and inactions since he got into Aso Rock as president have proved me right.

My reasons for not voting him in 2015 were due to the following. One, he colluded with others to overthrow a ‘democratically’ elected government.

Two, He slammed the politicians whom he dethroned into jail. But even, at that, the military regime was discriminatory because they were giving different treatments to different people. How could a sane and patriotic regime have even detained the best governor of that era, Lateef Jakande?

Three, his military regime murdered three so called drug pushers. I used the word ‘murdered’ because it was not in Nigerian laws at that time for drug pushers to be executed.

Four, when he ordered a currency change, no currency was supposed to enter the shores of Nigeria. However, the then Major Jokolo brought in 53 suitcases supposedly loaded with currency.

Five, he looked down on us, Nigerians. Nigerians too lost their self esteem. It was like he was angry with the rest of us.

Six, his regime made a law that anybody below eighteen years of age must not go on pilgrimage. However, the late General Idi Agbon went to Mecca with his son who was underage

Seven, he jailed Fela Kuti for a senseless foreign exchange transaction deal.

Eight, his regime didn’t believe in Human Rights. It was not surprising that he didn’t uphold Human Rights.

Nine, his regime went to the low of trying to smuggle a Nigerian, Umaru Dikko, from the UK.

I can go on and on!

The way I see things is that although I believe in forgiveness, however I don’t believe in forgetting. This is more so when it pertains to the prime post of the President of a country like Nigeria. This country is just so gifted in terms of people with brains to allow anyone to waste our time. I’m very much of the opinion that there’s no big deal in a president’s job. Particularly in a country like Nigeria where we still lack the most basic of amenities. Once a serious person starts doling out all these basic things, ‘people go love am die’.

From Mr Buhari’s actions and inactions so far I don’t believe my action in not voting him in as president has been proved me wrong.

Given the havocs herdsmen have been up to, and heightened since he came to power, I sincerely believe he would have been better as president of the herdsmen. Miyetti Allah I believe they call themselves.

For 2019, I believe the time has come for us to discard the idea of zoning the presidency. Let’s look for the best candidate so that we might get the best performance.

I will always use Lagos state as an example. In spite of the calls of so-called indigenes, Lagos has always picked its executives and even others from the best we have in the country, as long as they could lay claims to attachment with Lagos. That’s why Lagos will always excel. If we say it’s because of Lagos’ resources, is it not possible for a state or country to have resources and those in charge not know what to do with the resources? We needn’t go far because Nigeria is a case study.

In any case, in 2019, I will not vote for Mr Muhammad Buhari.
