Their Lord Has Spoken! – Adewale Sobowale

The Catholic diocesan of Nnewi was recently reported to have declared that investigation of donors’ sources of funds isn’t the business of churches.

I applaud his brilliant submission.

Really, wetin concern agbero with overload? The donors came to offer their donations without being forced, c’est finis!

Since money realised from vices are often easy money, the donors of the monies tend to spend without looking back like Lot’s wife.

What they spend in Church is only an infinitesiminal fraction of their loot.

After all, religion welcomes people who make their monies from dubious means. In fact, they are just like the kids, they shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Criminals actually go to church to confess their sins. After confession, they ought to donate various items. It matters a lot to them, because they will know if their confessions are accepted.

If not by God, at least, by his representative here on earth.

In any case, the diocesan assessment has to be paid. Churches that are serious about assessment don’t go about investigating their donors. Even if it comes from an untidy source, once it gets to the house of God, it will be oozing with holiness.

Building structures and donating outrageous amounts of money in churches is a way of giving back to the society. The act should be appreciated instead of being concerned.

Asking the church to investigate their donors’ sources of wealth is even an insult.

We must have a country wide protest against the disclosure of sources of our donors’ wealth.
