Shambolic Lockdown! – Adewale Sobowale

The lockdown being forced on people by the Nigerian government has further reinforced the belief by some of us that Mr Buhari’s government is an Animal Farm. In the book, ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell it’s stated that, ‘All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.’

The sentence is a proclamation by the pigs who control the government in the novel. It’s actually a comment on the hypocrisy of governments that claim all their citizens are equal but give a lot of privileges to a small elite.

While the commoners have been suffering because of the lockdown imposed by the Nigerian government, the men of means are busy flying even better than birds.

According to Sahara Reporters, in an uncommon investigation, the rich kids have never had it so good. People like Seyi Tinubu, Folarin Alakija, Rotimi Alakija, six members of late Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe’s family, MTN Vice President, Mr Toriola, Lagos lawyer, Aisha Rimi, Bello-Osagie Yasmin – daughter of billionaire Hakeem Bello-Osagie and several others have been seen in chartered planes flying to or from the U.K. during the lockdown.

Until the authorities prove Sahara Reporters wrong, I will maintain the saying of the Yoruba that, ‘Eni ti o gbon l’awe ngbo.’ The Nigerian government has not been faithful to the people.
