Mmm…
In whatever I do, I hardly forget my locality. Indeed, in my scribblings, I try, as much as possible, to tell the African story by an African. So, if showing my Africanness is considered local, so be it because I don’t have any apologies for that.
That’s why I’m always open to new knowledge about Africa. For instance, we learnt in History that Mungo Park or some other foreigner discovered River Niger.
And, as innocent as we were, we allowed that lie to sink into our brains. We never knew he discovered it for Europeans.
Of course, if we had not been naive, we would have known that Africans were living there before he came. But then, our naivety could have been pardoned because we were young.
But then, as we’re getting old, we should be proud to spread our essence wherever we’re opportuned to find ourselves.
No one will tell our own story for us if we refuse to do so!
Like I said, I’m proudly local!
