Did you know that most countries do not require educational certificates to be elected for any political post?
What most countries require are citizenship, having lived in the country for a certain number of years and a specific age.
Nigeria’s requirement for educational certificates might be a fallout from our colonial past when it was necessary to show the British officials that our political office holders were more well-read than the representatives of the Queen.
In any case, democracy does not mean the rule of the most educated, nor does it mean the rule of the richest or the most religious.
It is the rule of the most popular!
However, popular may mean some other thing to my people!
