Late Bloomers! – Adewale Sobowale

The Yoruba believe there’re three periods a man goes through, and they liken the periods to periods of the day.

That is morning stands for childhood, afternoon stands for mid age and night stands for old age.

They also pray that God should let their old age be the best.

Quite logical, ain’t it?

I mean if one doesn’t die, he will always prefer his old age, when he can no longer jump here and there to be peaceful. He will like to have all he needs.

But life has a way of doing things. Or should we agree with the English saying that, ‘As you make your bed, so you must lie on it?’

But then, experience has taught us that things are not in straight jackets. There are some who could have achieved their best even at a very tender age. For those lucky ones, barring any ill luck, management of their resources is very paramount.

However, there are some that for whatever reasons discover themselves much later in life. These are people whose talents and capabilities are slow to develop.

And it may or may not be necessarily due to some fault of theirs!

It’s just a law of nature. In many cases, you have some, due to their being in a hurry, going the diabolical way. They work against nature and they pay dearly for it.

We all know Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Did we know the story behind it? It was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1952 at a very young age of 62!

Before then, he had worked as a railroad laborer, managed companies that offered ferry services and acetylene lamps. He even managed a motel.

It was while running the motel that his fried chicken became popular. But he had to wait for another twelve years before his recipe started making waves.

The ace Nigerian musician, Fatai Rolling Dollar made good music in his early days. But he made little money. He soon fell into hard times.

However, when he was about seventy years old, he was rehabilitated. His music became a sell out and he became famous again.

There are advantages in being a late bloomer. Some of them are, you know that people are not defined by the milestones they haven’t reached at a certain age.

Definitions of the right time to do anything may not mean anything to you.

Late bloomers live up the fear that build up in them when something takes too long and they are not bothered when things happen right away.

Late bloomers tend to be appreciative of the little favours of life, the rains, sunlight, etc.

Late bloomers are good bosses. They tend to understand where you’re coming from.

Late bloomers are great counsellors. They could use their own cases as points of reference.

In conclusion, who says you can’t make it in life? Get out there and prove them wrong!!!
