Inhuman Nigerians! – Adewale Sobowale

A report is trending on social media that a son of the President, Yusuf, was involved in an accident earlier today According to the report, the younger Buhari had the accident while racing on a power bike with a friend.

Some Nigerians are going to town asking where he got fuel in this scarcity. Some are asking if the bike was covered in the budget. Some are questioning where the president got money to buy a bike for his son.

I think if we should keep on asking all these needless questions, at this time, we will be portraying our dehumanisation. We will be showing that we are something less than human beings.

For crying out loud, we are talking about a human life. OK, the father has not done well, but the sins shouldn’t have been taken from the son. That might be a case of transferred aggression. That might not be the fairest step for sensible Nigerians to take.

Let’s even assume we do that. How does it help us? Does it put food on our tables? Does it fill our tanks with fuel?

I am of the opinion that rather than scorning the first family, we should display some empathy with them.

To do otherwise is inhumane, un-African and sadistic.

The Yoruba will say, A nja bi ka ku ko, that is even when people are quarrelling if a relative of one of them or even one of the aggressors should die, that signifies the end of the quarrel.

In this case, I’m pleading with fellow Nigerians to sheath their swords, at least, for now!
