Inhuman!!! – Adewale Sobowale

I understand some people have been going about in a, God don catch dem, attitude. I’m talking about the Lagos floods.

Well, I have always said that we should first look at every human being as a brother. That is universal brotherhood of man. You see, if you could do that, you’ll be in a position to realise that every human being has some human rights, which he earns by basis of the fact that he is human.

Choice of a place of residence is a human right!

By the way, who says a natural disaster could not occur anywhere? Ajegunle, Makoko, Abeokuta, Kano, Enugu, Kafanchan or wherever.

We should not let our suffering becloud our sense of reasonable judgement. We remain humans. And I think some of the attributes of humans are those of pity and solidarity for fellow men.

Where is our sense of empathy?

It may be VGC or Ajah today but it may be, God forbid, Okokomaiko tomorrow.

The way our cities are planned makes us especially vulnerable. We too are not helping matters due to our failure to keep to the tenets of elementary hygiene. We throw our wastes in the drains and every other place we could find. We build our houses and commercial buildings on waterways.

At the end of the day, water must find its own level. Apart from water, are our cities planned to take care of emergencies?

We are all in the care of mother faith. God dey, as we resign ourselves into the hands of faith. However, nobody is disputing the existence of God. But then, He has given us something that is essential.

That is the sense of reasoning. We have the ability to plan. And we do it comparatively. So, we don’t deserve just any disaster.

Especially this!

Not when weather forecasters had told us to expect more rains this year. If we had planned, definitely things could not have been so bad.

Natural disasters could happen to anyone. So please, if we are not in a position to help out, don’t let us be seen as sadists.
